Marked by Love | St. Padre Pio - Odor of Sanctity + Coffee

These fragrant scents of the odor of sanctity and coffee are inspired by St. Padre Pio. He is the patron of civil defense volunteers, youth, Pietrelcina, stress relief, and January blues. Padre Pio's feast day is September 23.

   

 

The "odor of sanctity" is a well-documented phenomenon, experienced by believers and skeptics alike, that sometimes emanates from holy men and women. It is particularly connected with those bearing the stigmata, including Padre Pio. Rather than these open wounds smelling offensive, there are pleasant smells of flowers, perfume, and the like. 

   

 

Coffee is connected with the more earthly side of Padre Pio's life. He spent hours in the afternoon responding to the correspondence he received from all over the world, and would often have a bowl of coffee to help him get through it all. And if you know coffee lore, you've probably heard that "cappuccino" derives its name from the Capuchin habit.
